A Home Away From Home For Totally Dependent Persons!

APANGALAYA is the flagship project of Bharari for permanent residence for totally dependent persons. After the inception of Bharari, we started thinking of having a place where Physically Challenged Persons with problems of mobility and ill-health can be admitted and looked after. It took seven years thereafter to start such a home. Dr.(Mrs) Tara Naik offered us two adjacent apartments in Nilje, near Dombivli to start with a temporary arrangement. At this place we started the Apangalaya in 2003 with one dependent person with the staff of 4 normal and one residential handicap. The responsibility was taken by our Joint Secretary, Ms. Meena Veerkar, who herself was physically handicap.

After seven years,Apangalaya shifted to a new rental spacious location at Sai Dhara Towers, B Wing, Ground Floor, Manpada-Mangaon, Umbarli Road, Near VidyaNiketan School, Dombivli (East). Physically Challenged Persons with total disability and ailing Senior Citizens are admitted here on priority basis. Presently, we have the provision for 30-32 persons.

Doctors on Bharari's panel inspect the applicants for their physical condition. Some medical tests are mandatory before admission. Admission is the sole discretion of Bharari's Panel. Monthly charges, Deposits and other charges are decided upon the physical and mental condition of the patient.

  • Recreation facilities like World space Radio, Television, Music Systems, Booksand Periodicals, Indoor Games etc.
  • Caretaking Attendants of helpful nature.
  • Visiting Occupational Physiotherapists.
  • All specialised doctors on call as well as regular weekly visits.
  • Temporary admission for temporary disabilities due to fracture, paralysis.
  • Temporary admission for patients with permanent disability, whose parents wish to goout of station.
  • Temporary admission during medical treatment.

Day Care Centre For Physically Challenged Persons

We wish to start Day Care Centre for Physically Challenged Persons at Apangalaya. We are planning to pick them up from their residence in the morning and take care throughout the day and drop them to their home again in the evening after receiving the call from their parents. Motive of day care centre is that person should not feel lonely and lose his/her home during the day time when nobody will be there at home to look after him/her for whole day and also will be with his/her family at night.

For this project Bharari requires its own well equipped vehicles which suits the need of physically challenged persons.Since the place is little away from Dombivli vehicles will also be used for pick up and drop from Dombivli for patient’s relatives and staff/committee members as also volunteers coming from far away places. Also we require to appoint drivers and cleaners in shifts to run the vehicles.

Goals

Apangalaya being the major project of Bharari, we are having plans to develop it as a unique Centre for Physically Challenged Persons. Presently we are working in a rental place. We have recently purchased a land of 22 Gunthasat Village Chirad, Taloja MIDC Road, for Apangalaya Project. The NA Permission and sanction plan is also obtained from Collector Office. The proposed project consists of Apangalaya, Health Care Centre, Day Care Centre, Hostel facility for all types of handicapped students and working personnels, Workshop for repairing and producing various items required by physically handicapped persons etc. For vocational rehabilitation proposed projects like mukhvas, wax candles, supari, amlamawa etc. to be started. Some of these vocational rehabilitation projects are already in vogue. Facility for these projects is to be expanded further.

  • It would be an ideal construction with facilities for smooth mobility for Orthopedically Challenged Persons in the premises like lifts, easy approaches for wheelchairs, specially designed rooms and toilets etc.
  • Recreation facilities like Indoor Games, Library, Movies, Television, Computer Room, Music Systems, Auditorium.
  • Permanent Counselling Centre for all types of handicapped persons and their Families.
  • Facilities for Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy.
  • Day Care Centre with pickup and drop facility for Physically Challenged Persons from their home.
  • Employment in the Apangalaya for Physically Challenged Persons to suit their ability and talent.
  • Training Centre for vocational training to suit the abilities of Physically Challenged Persons.
  • A well-equipped workshop for manufacturing various products of Bharari Brand.
  • Sales Counter for products manufactured by Physically Challenged Persons individually and through Bharari.

Till now we have spent Rs. 2 crores on purchasing the plot. The total project cost constructing the ground plus three building (around 20000+sq.ft) is Rs. 10 crores approximately.

Apangalaya-Jyeshthalaya is the premier project of Bharari. Presently, we are running this project in a rented premises at ‘SaidharaTowers’atUmbarlird, Mangaon, Opp Vidya Niketan High School, Kalyan-Shilrd, Dombivali (East).This is a spacious place accommodating more than 30 physically challenged/senior citizens with disability.
